Reine Church

When the Lofoten International Chamber Music Festival was established in 2004, there was no concert grand piano at Reine. There was hardly a usable piano in the entire Moskenes Municipality. The then mayor Lillian Hansen was made aware of the situation.

STEINWAY & SON'S MODEL B, 2009

The festival would have liked to have concerts in the municipality, but then had to bring in instruments from outside. Things were speeded up only with the new mayor, Geir Wulf-Nilsen. In 2009, he started a round of calls to the most prosperous business leaders around the municipality.

LOCAL BUSINESS IS GETTING ENGAGED

The second call was to Atle Bergshaven, shipowner from Grimstad and main shareholder in Reine Rorbuer. The response was short and direct: "It's fine, I'll give money to a grand piano as long as I get to be alone."

SPEED ON THE MATTERS

This happened in May 2009, and once again Thron Ihrby was in Steinway Norway with the sheet music and procured a one-year-old Steinway & Son's model B with NOK 100,000 off. Atle Bergshaven paid for the grand piano, which was used for the first time on Friday 10 July at 19:00 of the same year. This time too, it was Nils Mortensen who had the honor of inaugurating Reine Kirke's new concert grand piano.
