In Milan, 32 representatives from 14 countries met on October 8-9 for the continuation of MERITA, now called MERITACubed.

During the years 2022-2025, 38 young string quartets received a basic introduction to how to run a classical ensemble as a small business. It was about economics, marketing, the use of social media and methods for reaching a new audience. They were also coached by experienced quartet musicians in program work and stage performance.

After this, all 38 ensembles were given the opportunity to go on an extensive tour of Europe, and our festival had six quartets visiting.

Now the project is being expanded with more project participants, more ensembles and an increased duration from three to four years. In addition to string quartets, piano trios will now also be given the opportunity. A total of 56 ensembles will get the chance this time.

For us, this means that we will welcome an ensemble in the years 2026 - 2029, and they will then participate in the festival in several different ways.

The Italian organization Le Dimore de Quartetto in Milan is running the project, and they have applied for and received project funds from the EU's Creative Europe program.

The musicians are paid as professionals, and the project has a cost framework of approximately 32 million Norwegian kroner.
